Embellished or Embarrassing--Your Thoughts? By Linda Kozar

What a great idea--to refurbish not-so-old books and give them an old-world look! I found two of these books at an old antique shop. One book was a Reader's Digest Condensed Book--four novels in one. Remember those? The other was James Patterson's "Along Came A Spider."

Both books were given the treatment--stenciling, gilding, sanding and other embellishments. If you know me and the way I feel about desecrating books, you know that I wouldn't have bought these beauties if the pages were mutilated in any way. I absolutely can't stand seeing perfectly good books, especially vintage ones become arts & crafts projects. The fact that these books weren't particularly old or the covers particularly special made this sort of treatment okay for me. The printed pages inside the covers are absolutely intact and pristine.

What are your thoughts on desecrating vintage books?
